CHINOOK SALMON - are the only species of fish eligible for the Derby.
BOAT FISHING ONLY - Derby participation is restricted to fishing from a vessel. Fish taken by dock or shore fishing will not be accepted.
OCEAN FISHING ONLY - All eligible fish must be caught from a boat in the Pacific Ocean off the Brookings-Harbor coast. No fish caught in a river or another state will be allowed.
ARTIFICIAL WEIGHTING - of fish will disqualify that person from the Derby. Any fish may be opened and checked in the presence of Derby officials.
WEIGH IN - The weigh station will open by 9:00 am each day. Fish caught on Friday or Saturday must be weighed in by 5:00 pm of the same day. Fish caught on Sunday must be weighed in by 3:00 pm of that day. Fish must be weighed in by a designated official of the Salmon Derby.
OREGON FISHING RULES & REGULATIONS - Each participant is responsible to obtain an Oregon fishing license and salmon tag. All State of Oregon fishing regulations shall apply.
REGISTRATION - Entry to the Derby must be received by 7:00 am the day of fishing (example: if you only fish on Sunday registration must be received by 7:00 am on Sunday, if you fish Saturday & Sunday registration must be received by 7:00 am on Saturday.) There is no discount for fishing less than all three days. Cost of registration is $50.00. Register by August 1, 2009 and receive a $10.00 Early Bird discount. Registration forms are available at Brookings City Hall, Brookings-Harbor Port office, Chamber of Commerce Visitors Center and various other locations.
GRAND PRIZE JUDGING - Judging for grand prizes will be based on gross weight of the individual fish entered. In the case of a tie - the first fish weighed will be placed ahead.
ELIGIBILITY WHILE FISHING - All persons with a valid fishing license and salmon tag are eligible to enter the derby. ALL persons with a valid fishing license and salmon tag aboard a vessel must have a valid derby registration. If any eligible person is on board without a valid derby registration - all fish brought aboard the vessel will be deemed ineligible for entry into the derby and will not qualify for any prize.
FISHING DAYS - Participants may fish one, two or three days of the Derby. However, the entry fee is the same regardless of how many days fished.
PRIZES – Prizes must be claimed within 10 days. All unclaimed prizes will become property of the Slam’n Salmon Derby.
JUDGES - All decisions of Official Derby Judges shall be final.
YOU MUST REPORT TO THE DERBY HEADQUARTERS ON THE BOARDWALK TO OBTAIN AN IDENTIFICATION TAG PRIOR TO FISHING IN THE DERBY. AN OFFICIAL WILL BE THERE THURSDAY AFTERNOON AND BY 5:00 am FRI., SAT. & SUN. NO FISH WILL BE WEIGHED WITHOUT HAVING AN IDENTIFICATION TAG.
